Craniosacral Therapy

I often am asked, “What the heck is Craniosacral Therapy?” It is definitely a mouth full. Most don’t know how to pronounce it, let alone know what it is! Craniosacral Therapy is a non-invasive subtle touch bodywork modality that works directly with the nervous system. It aims to release the “inner” tension that keeps you bound to ways of holding and moving your body that are restrictive and/or less than optimal. This type of bodywork reeducates your body to remember what it feels like to let go of struggle and holding and to just be naturally. Incorporated within this work is somatic awareness so that you begin to form a deep, intimate relationship with your body. This helps you to hear what it is saying when it is “speaking” to you and to know how to help it when it needs some extra TLC.

This work is ideal for those who

  • Have chronic pain
  • Have a nervous system imbalance
  • Have a degenerative disease or condition
  • Are recovering from an injury or surgery
  • Want to feel more free and loose in the body
  • Want to develop a deeper, more loving, and respectful relationship with your body

At the heart of Craniosacral Therapy lie the foundational principles of osteopathy and somatic awareness. Osteopathy teaches:

  • The human being is a unit consisting of body, mind, spirit, energy
  • The body has it’s own unique intelligence and is capable of self-regulating, self-healing, and maintaining balanced equilibrium
  • The structure and function of the body depend and inform one another
  • The osteopathic practitioner is there to aid the body’s innate wisdom to heal and rebalance through the least invasive means of intervention

Somatic awareness recognizes:

  • The importance of noticing and getting in touch with body sensations in order to facilitate shifts in the mind/body
  • The vital role the nervous system plays in creating health and/or distress in the mind/body
  • Accessing and releasing emotions plays a paramount role in healing the mind/body
  • The body can and does respond to emotional/mental/energetic trauma physically

I came to Katy with ongoing persistent allergies and malaise. The first session I was not sure what she was doing. I had never had this kind of work done before, but I was open and trusting. By the third session I wanted to live on her table and eagerly looked forward to every appointment. She worked quietly and intuitively. Intensely listening to what my body needed. It was so refreshingly different from the medical doctors who seemed not to have the time or interest to get to the root of the problem. I had just about given up hope of ever feeling better when I cam e to her. I feel better now than I have in a decade or more. I have only the highest admiration, appreciation and recommendation for Katy.”   -Jason Mayr-

I am so grateful to have been introduced to Katy. When severe pain and loss of mobility occurred in my left shoulder I was unable to sleep and work at my normal capacity…needless to say I was freaked out. Katy assessed my issues and my lifestyle and helped me create a plan for recovery. The Craniosacral Therapy was gentle and noninvasive and from the first visit I found relief and started to relax. I was able to sleep better and the pain started to subside. After six weeks I have 75% of my mobility back and almost pain free. Katy was so great at assessing my entire system, offering suggestions to treat my overall body and her compassionate care has me on a healthier life plan.”   -Bobbi Tone-

I have received a series of ten cranioscral treatments from Katy. The healing effects were astounding. Each time seems to build on each other and every session was transforming. Benefits were relaxation, Pain relief, emotional release, and mental clarity. I approached this therapy with no expectations and was delighted to achieve improved health on many levels.” -Kimberly Kavanagh-
